Cosh Living recently had the opportunity to style Heyington Place, a beautiful heritage 1930s Toorak home owned by renowned Melbourne landscape architect Jack Merlo. The interiors and landscape, which recently underwent a stunning renovation in collaboration with Studio 11:11, provided the perfect backdrop for Kett's Australian-inspired indoor and outdoor furniture collections, along with outdoor pieces from European brands Tribu and Atelier Vierkant.

A contemporary homage to heritage and craftsmanship.

Nestled along a street enriched by lush greenery, Heyington place preserves its timeless architectural charm. Originally designed by Architect Stuart Calder, the renovation has maintained the homes historical integrity while integrating modern elements that enhance the building’s innate beauty—such as warm timbers, natural stone, and a sophisticated mix of textures and colours.

Furnishing the home, Cosh highlighted Kett's 'Indoors Looking Out' narrative and its celebration of Australian living. Kett's new arrivals, Feathertop, and Portland seamlessly integrated into this Australian home, demonstrating their versatility within a space that is both timeless and contemporary.

Portland Arc Coffee Table
The Portland Arc Coffee Table draws inspiration from the scenic bays found in the region. Its graceful, curved legs reference the protection offered to ships amidst rough waters, the shape of the tabletop paying homage to the vessels that found secure anchorage in the harbor.

Creating a space that is both sophisticated and inviting, adhering to the laid-back Australian lifestyle.

The view from the main living area, framed by European-style floor-to-ceiling windows, beautifully showcases landscaping designed by Jack himself. This scene is elegantly complemented by our Feathertop Sofa, Portland Coffee Table, and Johanna Occasional Chairs, all upholstered to harmonise seamlessly with both the garden and interior spaces. The Johanna chairs feature muted forest green velvet, while the Portland Coffee Table and chairs share a smoked oak timber finish. Complementing these is the Feathertop Sofa, upholstered in plush textured cream fabric. together, they echo the natural tones inspired by the Australian landscape, creating a space that is both sophisticated and inviting, which adheres to the laid-back Australian lifestyle.

Exploring innovative design with the Erskine modular sofa.

In the second living area, we showcased the new module available in the Erskine modular sofa collection. This innovative design is a 30-degree angle, departing from the usual 90-degree modular. This innovative new shape encourages interaction and a more dynamic use of the area. In the centre of the room is the Erskine coffee table, paired with the new Karm Lounge Chairs from Softline. Finished in Kett's new Smoked Oak stain, the Karm chairs offer an open and light feeling to complement the large Erskine sofa, showcasing the home's grandeur.

Minimalist styling featuring handwoven wool rugs and curated found objects.

Styling was kept minimal since the home already had so much character. Large handwoven wool rugs from Hali Rugs were used in both spaces, complemented by a painting by Hayden Jacks titled 'Untitled 30, 2022,' along with a mix of new and vintage ceramics adorned with Australian natives and leaves from the garden.

Erskine Modular Sofa
The dramatic sweep of the Erskine sofa’s arms reference natural curvilinear forms, whilst a French seam rises up and continues along a ‘ridge’ and back down the other side.The Erskine offers understated elegance as a meeting place for family and friends. The sofa features generous cushioning to allow upright face to face conversation, while the exceptionally comfortable seat evokes images of more simple pleasures – your feet up and head back on a leisurely afternoon.

Erskine Coffee Table
The Erskine coffee table’s soft lines are in conversation with those of the Erskine sofa, two solid timber planes held in tension. Refined rounded legs confidently counter the gentle curve, intersecting the two surfaces. The planes elevate objects from the floor and provide a locale for books, objects and plants.

Extending the theme from indoors to the outdoor entertaining spaces.

On the patio, the Aireys woven lounge chairs embody a perfect blend of comfort and style, with their curved silhouette and woven features harmonising with the textured sandstone backdrop and lush garden setting.

In the garden, natural tones of the Nodi Armchairs, Illum dining table, and Senja loungers continue the colour theme from indoors, while the large Atelier Vierkant pots perfectly balance the outdoor setting for entertaining guests.

Nodi Armchair
The Nodi armchairs silhouette is characterised by the twisted interlaced rope that is stretched across a precise geometric frame. The slim arm is angled slightly inward in a welcoming gesture.

Illum Tables
With its slim legs the Illum dining table is kept pure and simple. For the tabletop, you can choose from teak or ceramic in various colours. There are two widths available to suit wide or narrow outdoor areas; the standard 98cm or a slim version measuring 71cm wide. The timeless table design can be matched with dining chairs in many different styles and materials.

Atelier Vierkant UF Pots
Hand-crafted planters that will last a lifetime. These pots are sculptural pieces for the home and garden that are constructed using unique clay from different regions of Germany. They are made using moulds and are slowly hand carved and sculpted by a team of around 20 master craftspeople which effectively gives each planters their one of a kind aesthetic.
